JAPANVPN FIELD GUIDE

How to watch Japanese TV outside Japan

Start with the program you want, then choose the service. Catch-up TV, paid libraries, live events and radio have different accounts, viewing windows and regional rules.

Find the right service

A Japanese title is not necessarily exclusive to Japan. Check authorized availability where you are first; ABEMA, for example, permits some overseas access. Read the provider’s current regional and VPN policies before buying a plan.

TVer

TVer brings together broadcaster catch-up programs, including dramas, variety shows and anime. It is useful for recent episodes rather than a permanent archive: check the expiry on the episode you want.

ABEMA

ABEMA combines scheduled channels and on-demand programs with paid plans and separately ticketed events. Access to a channel does not establish access to a particular replay or PPV event.

U-NEXT

U-NEXT offers film, drama, anime and live entertainment. A title may be part of a viewing plan, a rental or a separate purchase; a catalog listing does not establish inclusion in your subscription.

Hulu Japan

Hulu Japan has its own Japanese film and television offering, account arrangements and viewing requirements. Check the exact title and whether it is included or separately rented.

FOD

FOD is Fuji TV’s video destination. Check the program page for the edition, viewing window and whether a premium plan or separate event product is required.

radiko

radiko is a Japanese radio listening service. Choose the station and program first, then check local listening, area-free and time-free conditions for the plan you have.

Check the episode, match or event

  1. Find its official program page and the exact edition or season.
  2. Check free, included, rental and ticketed options separately.
  3. Confirm viewing deadlines and live start times in Japan Standard Time.
  4. Check audio, subtitles, account, payment and device eligibility.
  5. Read current JapanVPN compatibility before relying on a VPN.

Where a Japanese IP helps

A VPN routes your connection through Japan so websites see a Japanese public IP. It does not grant a subscription or override service rules. Read how to get and verify a Japanese IP for the connection steps.
